OUR VETERINARY SERVICES

We believe that we can provide the best care for your pet by being able to prevent problems before they begin or soon after they are noticed. We strive to practice preventive medicine in order to minimize the risk factors associated with many diseases.  We recommend an annual, and sometimes bi-annual, physical exam, depending upon your pet's age and medical history.

By practicing preventive medicine, we are able to minimize and slow the progression of many diseases which allows your pet to live a longer and happier life.

These first visits are very important in getting your new pet off to a good start.  Our doctors perform thorough physical examinations, evaluating your pet for congenital or developmental abnormalities.

Exams for any internal or external parasite problems are also conducted.  Any problems detected will be thoroughly explained and treatment options outlined.  Necessary vaccinations will be also be performed at this time.

Our doctors and staff will give you the latest information about diet, training, and preventative care.  You will receive handouts to take home, along with samples of puppy or kitten food.

We like to see your new puppy or kitten as soon as possible after you bring it home, then at regular intervals until the series of vaccinations are completed. Spaying or neutering is recommended at 6 months of age.

We recommend a complete physical exam for your

pet on at least a yearly basis.  Your pet ages approximately 5 - 7 "human years" in one calendar year;  therefore, a lot can change from year to year, especially as your pet gets older.

Based on examination findings and your pet's individual needs and situation, which you help us to determine, preventative health care recommendations are made.  These may include blood tests, urinalysis, fecal tests, exercise advice, dietary changes, nutritional supplements,  shampoos, life-style changes, etc.

Veterinary Medical Advancements

Veterinary medicine has made great strides in recent years to improve the quality of life for our older pets.  We routinely have patients in their late teens and even a few over 20 years old, still doing very well.

At Northgate Animal Hospital, we provide special attention to aging pets focusing on preventative measures and the early detection and treatment of potential health problems.

When pets aren't feeling well or have been injured, we are equipped to diagnose and treat most conditions.  We will discuss your pet's history, pertinent information, and observations from you that might aid us in determining the problem.

We will also perform any necessary diagnostic procedures such as

X-rays, blood tests, etc., to help us determine the best course of treatment for your pet.  We routinely consult with board-certified specialists in challenging cases and can facilitate referrals when necessary.

We have a modern, well-equipped surgery suite where our doctors perform a variety of surgical procedures.  We have served as the Tri-state area's CO2 laser surgery referral center since 1998.  We also have advanced equipment for anesthesia and monitoring during procedures, including pulse oximetry and ECG.  We use integrated pain management to help keep our patients as comfortable as possible.

Our modern X-ray machine is powerful enough to take excellent quality films of even extremely large dogs with minimal exposure to radiation.

Our automatic processor ensures clear, quality films.  Within minutes, we can have your pet's X-rays taken, processed and ready for interpretation by our doctors.
